The Egyptian Society for Infection Control, represented by Prof. Maha Fathy and Dr. Riham El-Asady, attended the first plenary session of the WHO Civil Society Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance, held virtually on 18 November 2025.

During the session, the official launch of a new global platform dedicated to strengthening, coordinating, and scaling up civil society engagement in the response to antimicrobial resistance was announced. The platform brings together more than eighty civil society organizations from countries around the world.

Participants were divided into six regional groups to discuss key antimicrobial resistance–related challenges in each region, identify areas where civil society can lead context-specific solutions, and review existing regional networks or platforms that could be leveraged to coordinate advocacy efforts and facilitate knowledge sharing. Discussions also included proposing practical regional initiatives that civil society could collectively implement in 2026 to strengthen the regional response, as well as exploring ways to support the establishment of robust civil society platforms focused on antimicrobial resistance at both regional and national levels.
