ESIC was honored to be invited to participate in a Scientific Day organized by Delta University for Science and Technology on Monday, 15 December, in celebration of the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW). The event aimed to raise awareness among undergraduate students from seven healthcare-related faculties.

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Rabie Nasser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and ESIC was formally invited by Prof. Yahya El-Mashad, President of Delta University, Prof. Magda El-Sherbini, Vice President, Prof Ahmed Mansour, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Abdelaziz Hussien, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies, and Dr. Yomna Setate, Head of Infection Control Unit.

We were truly honored to accept this invitation, and ESIC actively participated in the organization and implementation of the scientific event thereafter. It was represented by several members of its scientific community, including Prof. Maha Fathy, ESIC President, Prof. Dina Erfan, and Dr. Alaa Algammal.

The event was highly inspiring and reflected a strong institutional commitment to raising awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among healthcare students. It opened with a scientific talk by the ESIC President, Prof. Maha Fathy, addressing students from all healthcare faculties and highlighting their critical role in combating AMR, as well as the importance of developing an antimicrobial stewardship mindset early in their professional lives.

This was followed by the participation of Dr. Yara, representing the WHO Egypt Country Office, who enriched the event with a valuable scientific talk addressing AMR as a global public health challenge, with special focus on the regional burden and the urgent need for action.

The program also included diverse student projects presented by students from pharmacy, dentistry, and medicine, which clearly reflected creativity, scientific curiosity, and genuine engagement.

The day concluded with an interactive competition, jointly organized by Prof. Dina Erfan and Dr. Alaa Algammal, and included giveaways from ESIC. The students’ enthusiasm, active participation, and eagerness to learn until the final moments were remarkable and deeply rewarding.

Such initiatives play a vital role in strengthening community awareness, fostering team spirit among healthcare students, and highlighting their shared responsibility in antimicrobial stewardship.
